Chingay Reflections

How should I describe the performance It was a 2 hour performance and it was of much excitement. It is a performance includes all different ethnic group. It brings a great surprise to Singaporeans, and
wish that Singapore would push forward another 50 year and start a new chapter of 2016. SG100 FOR THE WIN! There is Chinese dance, Indian dance, Malay dance, stunt performance. The emcee was very funny and entertained us all. Me and my classmates loved the performance. There were also a great goodie bag given which satisfied me even more trough out the whole performance.

The purpose of Chingay at first was to celebrate Chinese New Year as a result of the ban of firecrackers. It was to make up for it. It was mostly meant for the Chinese at that time.
But today, Chingay is a performance with different ethnic groups performing. Including PAYM. It
is a performance targeted at all people, not just Chinese or Singaporeans, but also people from
other countries. For example, one of the old chingay performances included the Japanese together
in the performance. And Chingay is not just a performance now. It also encourages all peopled
rom the neightbourhood or community to participate, no matter young or old. I watched the video don Chingay performance during CCE lesson and learnt how they encourage people to join Chingay and how everyone enjoys it. From what I saw, everything was enjoyable so I think even I can participate! Yay! The parade is really spectacular. There was a great LED dragon which was very awesome and there were people who was lifted to the skies and performing at a very great risk. This is the performance that I felt was the best. Those performers were wearing very long dresses so I was really freaking out about whether they were going to fall at first. We were discussing it even in Chinese lessons because it was just so terrifying. But they seemed very skilled and familiar so the performance was very good. These 2 are the performance that left the biggest impression on me.

I was also very impressed with the big amount of volunteers. They helped with all the backstage stuff like makeup. I saw from a photo that they were very happy to help out. This really brings out
the love of everyone for Singapore. (Sorry, photo gone) There were also students who ushered us
to our seats. I find that really amazing because I  expected adults so they were like my role model.
They welcomed us with a wide smile and said hi to me! The other reason why I enjoyed this
experience because I went there with my friends. Usually I would be with my parents so this is like a new experience for me. We talked a lot about the performance, discussed what was wrong with the lightings of those cars? (The thing that is full of lights and very long). So I really enjoyed this performance and I sincerely hope we will have more experiences like this so we can have more fun while watching such a beautiful performance.

I think the organizers have successfully achieved their purpose of bringing out the different cultures and ethnic groups together. They strengthen the Singapore spirit with Chingay, similar to
a national day parade, brought out the love for Singapore and made me love Cheah at first sight. I
have also learnt different cultures of the ethnic groups even more after this Chingay performance.
Moreover, when you see the changes of Chingay from old days till now, you will feel very glad.
Because I can see a very big amount of effort put in in this performance. From a street show to a
grand festival. That's a very big change, for the better of course. Also, there are much more people watching this performance like people for other countries. I am really impressed with how Chingay spread around the world. I sure hope they will be just as successful next time so I can experience this again. :)

Does being rich equals to being happy? The answer is no.

Research has shown that Indoenesians' happiness index is higher than Singaporeans' even though Singapore is more prosperous. It also means that we Singaporeans are earning more and somehow richer, yet we are not happy. Why? This is because Singaporeans have no time to spend all the money. If you earn $10000 a month, it can also mean that you are working every single day and
night. And if you do so, it means you have no time to spend the money you have earned.

Singaporeans might have overlooked this. "You earn money so you can enjoy life." Not "You enjoy life by earning money." Thus, even if you are a millionaire, without the time or energy to spend it, it is pointless. This is just my opinion of course.

Another reason is because singapore's cost of living is high. So you might need to work harder in order to survive, and work even harder if you want to live in a more luxurious lifestyle. Thus, Singaporeans also lack the time to spend the money due to this

I have been talking about spending money. This bring to to the next point, spending time with family. My father works really hard to support the family, but he can only spend more time with the family during weekends. During weekdays he just comes back for dinner and stay in his office room for work. I know that I am already pretty fortunate that my father can still spend time with the family during weekends. I have some friends whose parents work even during weekends and come back late in the night everyday. Thus this might also lead to unhappiness in Singapore as adults cannot spend time with their family.

Therefore, being rich does not mean that you are happier. Happiness is not about having a lot of money, more about enjoying life with the money and having time to spend it with family. It is not necessary to earn a ton of money just to be happy. So I think adults should not force themselves too hard to work and forget about their own selves. Don't worry, be happy.

Reflections on China's one child policy.

3 thing I have learnt
1. I found out that not every country wants more children unlike Singapore
2. I found out that Singapore has also instilled this 2-child policy before.
3. I found out the bad thing about one child policy. Like the child being self-centered and lonely etc.

2 perceptions I have gained
1. I think the one child policy is not necessary because it causes way too many problems that harm the health of both parents and the children.
2. I think that Singapore should have never instilled such a policy and maybe we might have a higher birth rate now.

1 question I have
1. No question.

Rv60 reflections

So, RV60 is officially over. Everyone has mixed feelings.
This is my first time I went to Chingay celebration. I am very impressed by the spectacular performance and amazing lighting.  It is also much similar to the national parade. Let me first

But to me, RV60's purpose was solely just to celebrate an anniversary in a major way. I understand that it is important because without that performance from each and every RVian's support, RV would not have a meaningful anniversary. It is a school. A school is made up of mostly students. If we don't celebrate it with something big who else will?

But this celebration changed the timetable a lot. Due to RV60, we are released earlier everyday to practice. So there might be people who do not enjoy staying back everyday for practice because it is boring or tiring. Also, there are definitely too much students to all be in performances. So they are told to be ushers, which makes some of the people in the RV60 performance feel unfair. They stay back everyday to train for performances but ushers don't really have to do that much.

This issues might only be unique to a school performance. Because national day parade volunteers are really voluntarily helping while we students are obliged to perform. Therefore, the feelings towards this celebration might differ. I can understand why the school tells everyone to participate but there must be some disputes within others. Those volunteers of the parade could really just be free. Like maybe they are not working, probably housewives, retirees or whatsoever. They don't need to work p. They are not busy with taking care of children... And they really want to do something for the country's birthday! I am not saying that we RVians don't want to do anything for our school but there are people who just really want to focus on studying. I fell sick right after the day of RV60 all the way till now I'm still suck. So, it is really tiring for us too and some of us might fall out on studies when we start learning again.

But the level of school prides the student have is high. I mean, we still bother to train for this anniversary because we are proud of our school being 60 years old. Sure there are complains halfway because it's tiring, but in the end that does not show less school pride. We still think that RV60 is important and if we did not have school pride. Why would we even bother attending any training? It's 1:30pm release, might as well go home and finish up homework... But we still bothered to train hard. Even in the holidays. And we do talk about it, about whether the performance is nice or it needs more improvements. All this shows pride of our school as we find the performance important.I am assuming that all students are proud of the school, happy that the school has its 60th anniversary.

Consequences of students thinking negatively would be to themselves. If they think the school is bad at all this they still have to make do with it. They still must live on even if they are unhappy. So why not think of the bright side. It might not be perfect. The celebration performance might have its flaws but thinking of the bright side helps you. It's better than dreading RV60 everyday and in the end regret it. So in the end, we will be in RV for 6 years. If you feel negatively about the school, it's your own problem. You are going to live with it for 6 years and the rest who enjoys it are going to like their experience in this school.

I feel that RV's relationship with many other schools makes me a proud student. I have never thought schools will have such good relationships. When schools from other countries give us a gift,, I will feel proud that my school is important to schools of even other countries. I am very glad that other schools appreciate our school too.

So RV60 to me is just a celebration. I have no complains. It is a success and it is over. That's all I need to know, and I have no regrets because I had put in my all for the school's 60th anniversary.

Self introduction

Heyyy!!
I am Rainer Tan Wei Hang from 2K. Ex JPSian, current RVian. I personally enjoyed CID a lot last year so I hope this year's CID would be fun too! I am 166cm tall. My hobby would be playing card games and watching anime. Yup I am a typical anime fanboy. Food wise... I hate eggs. I puke every time I see/smell/taste/touch/hold an egg. My favourite movie is BORUTO! I love dogs although I don't have one.

That is all my likes and don't likes. My cca is wushu. I enjoy it although it is superrrrrrr painful. Sports or study? Uhh.. Can I say none. Haha joke only. I would prefer sports to studying because sports is more enjoyable and wakes me up from words and texts. I am not implying that I hate studying ok?

I spent half of my holiday in Malaysia and half in Singapore. Was just visiting my cousin in Malaysia so nothing much to say.. The food is nice definitely. The rest of the holidays were just spent on homework, RV60ing and enjoying life by doing my hobbies. That's about all. Side note: I am a computer idiot. :D
